What Is Energy Efficiency? Here are the Benefits & Examples

Talking about saving energy, you might be familiar with energy efficiency. This concept aims to do various activities and save energy. This article further discusses energy efficiency, including examples and advantages. Thus, read it until the end!

What Is Energy Efficiency?

What Is Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency measures how well a device or system utilizes energy to achieve an objective. This concept aims to reduce the amount of energy consumed in everyday life.

Despite reducing consumed energy, it does not mean that the result will be poor. The expected result is surely similar or better, although the consumed energy is the same or lower. This objective might be achieved using advanced or effective technologies or methods.

The Advantages of Energy Efficiency

The Advantages of Energy Efficiency

In addition to reducing energy consumption in everyday life, energy efficiency also has several benefits, including:

1. Increasing Competition

The first benefit is increasing competition, especially for companies implementing energy efficiency. By saving more energy, the company can reduce production costs and offer a more competitive price in the market.

2. Lowering Operational Cost

Because you can save and reduce energy consumption, you can lower the long-term operational cost. Some outcomes, such as electricity, utility, and fuel can be reduced, allowing you to focus more on other important things.

3. Improving Public Health

By saving energy, carbon emissions and pollution from energy production can also be reduced. As a result, disorders caused by pollution, such as asthma, ARI, and so on can be avoided so that public health can be improved.

4. Supporting Sustainable Environment

Energy efficiency is essential to environmental sustainability strategies. Businesses and individuals can help preserve the environment by using less energy and other natural resources. The negative impact on the environment can be minimized while maintaining the balance of the ecosystem.

5. Slowing Climate Change

As explained before, energy efficiency can reduce carbon emissions and pollution which causes climate change. By reducing the use of private vehicles and wasting food, emissions and the impact of global warming can be lowered.

The Examples of Energy Efficiency

The Examples of Energy Efficiency

There are various activities you can do to implement energy efficiency, such as:

1. Using LED Lamps

The first example is using LED lamps. This type of lamp produces less head compared to a bulb. The usage is longer than bulbs, which is 25.000 hours or 25 times longer.

2. Using Automatic Charger

As technology develops, many phone and laptop chargers are set automatically. Automatic chargers will stop charging when the devices are full, giving them a healthier battery. This type of charger can also save more energy.

3. Utilizing Energy-Efficiency Windows

The materials used to make energy-efficient windows serve to reduce heat loss due to air leakage. The goal is to lower the need for air conditioners or heaters.

4. Utilizing Solar Panel

Utilizing solar panels is one way to save electricity. Solar panels that use renewable solar energy can help the transition from coal to solar heat for electricity.

Utilizing Solar Panel

Regarding solar panels, Krakatau Chandra Energi, the subsidiary of Chandra Asri Group, also supports renewable energy by providing solar panels. These panels can be installed using one of the three methods: On-Grid Solar Panel, Off-Grid Solar Panel, and Hybrid Solar Panel.

5. Implementing Green Building

The next example is designing a green building house by planning it to get more light during the day. As a result, you do not need to use air conditioning or lights during the day and can save more energy.

Regarding green building, Chandra Asri Group also implements it on Gedung Admin Building OPE in Ciwandan Plant, Cilegon. This company carries out efficient design, water, electricity, and material usage to build this building.

Thanks to this effort, Chandra Asri Group succeeded in achieving Green Building EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Advanced certification.

6. Utilizing Clean and Renewable Energy

Another example is using renewable and clean energy, like wind, hydro, and solar energies. This will reduce the use of nonrenewable fossil fuels as the primary energy source, saving more cost and the environment.

What Are the Differences Between Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation?

What Are the Differences Between Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation

Discussing energy efficiency, you might be familiar with energy conservation. Then, what is the difference between both? Energy conservation is the effort to preserve energy resources and increase the leveraging efficiently.

This means that energy conservation focuses on human activity that uses energy. An example of energy conservation is switching off unused electronics, managing inorganic waste, and many more.

On the other hand, energy efficiency focuses on the energy-consuming and human-used machines, tools, or systems. Examples of energy efficiency measures include using LED lights instead of bulbs, using more efficient appliance models, and so on.

In conclusion, energy conservation is more like how we, as humans, use less energy-consuming tools rationally. In contrast, energy efficiency is the minimal energy consumption for similar or better results.

Despite having different focuses, both can be united into energy conservation and efficiency because some saving energy efforts might be included in conservation and efficiency energy actions.

Those are the information about energy efficiency that you can learn. Taking action for environmental sustainability is very important to maintain its preservation. These actions can start from simple activities to have a big impact.

In this regard, the Chandra Asri Group also commits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint through energy efficiency and renewable energy. Chandra Asri Group prioritizes emission and waste reduction as well as responsible wastewater management by adopting circular economy principles.
