Biodiversity Conservation at Kehati Park 2024 – 2025

Chandra Asri Group is committed to conserving biodiversity as part of its efforts to protect and preserve ecosystems in order to support and sustain its programs.

Located in Gunung Sugih Village, Ciwandan District, Cilegon City, Taman Kehati Asri serves as an ex-situ conservation area, an effort to protect and preserve flora and fauna outside their natural habitats so they can continue to reproduce and remain protected. Together with the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of Biology Education, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, this park functions not only as a green space, but also as an open laboratory for maintenance, development, research, publication, and innovation.

In 2024, data showed continuous growth:

  • Flora: 425 plants from 47 species, with a biodiversity index (H’) of 3.09
  • Fauna: 161 individuals (Aves, Herpetofauna, Mammals, Insects) with H’ scores of 2.17 (aves), 1.71 (herpetofauna), 1.35 (mammals), and 0.69 (insects)

One year later, in 2025, the results improved:

  • Flora increased to 441 plants from 48 species (H’ 3.12)
  • Fauna recorded 156 individuals with higher H’ scores: 2.22 (aves), 1.80 (herpetofauna), 1.56 (mammals), and 0.88 (insects)

Beyond ex-situ conservation, Chandra Asri also undertakes in-situ conservation, preserving biodiversity directly in its natural habitat so that species can continue to thrive where they originate. This activity is carried out in the Cidanau Watershed, Kadubereum Village, Padarincang District, in collaboration with Rekonvasi Bhumi.

At Taman Kehati Kadubereum in 2024, the data recorded:

  • 3,061 plants from 60 species with H’ 3.35
  • 472 aves individuals from 87 species with H’ 3.64

This marked an increase compared to the 2022 aves monitoring, which recorded 325 individuals with H’ 3.61—showing that the environment is becoming increasingly conducive for wildlife to return and settle.

Chandra Asri Group is also expanding its innovation by conserving rare flora classified as Endangered under the IUCN Red List, such as the Sarangan/Saninten tree (Castanopsis argentea) with 10 seedlings. The habitat of this species has been threatened due to extensive land clearing. It can typically be found in protected forest areas and conservation zones.

In addition to flora, Chandra Asri Group is also preserving fauna, specifically the Sikatan Cacing (Cyornis banyumas), with one individual conserved. This bird, from the Muscicapidae family, is classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.

The increasing biodiversity index (H’) in both parks proves that the protection efforts carried out are delivering tangible results. This initiative is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the protection of life on land and ecosystems.
