PT. Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group) has announced its readiness to establish a Chlor Alkali - Dichloride (CA-EDC) Plant in Cilegon, Banten, as part of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) initiative. This CA-EDC plant project is designed to promote sustainable economic growth and industrial downstreaming while reducing dependence on imported chemical materials. Erwin Ciputra, President Director and CEO of Chandra Asri Group, expressed appreciation for the government’s support in designating the plant as a PSN, highlighting their shared commitment to accelerating development in line with the company’s vision as a Growth Partner. The facility will be operated by the Group’s subsidiary, PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA), with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of caustic soda and 500,000 tons of Ethylene Dichloride (EDC). Caustic soda will cater to the alumina and nickel refining industries and electric vehicle battery needs, while EDC serves as a primary component of PVC used in the construction sector.
As one of 77 PSN programs outlined in the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) announced by President Prabowo Subianto, this project has obtained essential permits, including an Environmental Impact Assessment (Amdal) and Building Approval. Supported by technology from Japan's Asahi Kasei Corporation for the caustic soda plant and a leading American vinyl technology provider for EDC development, Chandra Asri remains optimistic about the project's smooth progress. In addition to fostering economic growth of up to 8% and generating employment opportunities, this initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing human resource quality, reducing poverty, and achieving equitable development throughout Indonesia.
