How to Preserve the Sea in 7 Simple Actions, Take Note!

The sea is one of the ecosystems that must be protected on Earth because it is a place where marine biota live. That’s why it is important to know how to preserve the sea.

Moreover, according to Our World in Data, 70% of this planet is the ocean, and 78% of animal biomass lives in the sea. This article discusses the importance of preserving the marine ecosystem. Thus, read the information below.

How to Preserve the Sea

How to Preserve the Sea

When talking about how to preserve the sea, you can actually start from the simplest things, like saving water. Here are some ways to protect the marine ecosystem you can do:

1. Saving Water

The first step of how to preserve the sea is to save water and avoid producing excessive liquid waste. Liquid waste can pollute the sea, especially if it is not managed properly.

Some activities you can do are using enough water to bathe, catching the rain to water the plants, being wiser in using the washing machine, and turning off the water tap when not in use.

2. Reducing the Use of Hazardous Chemical Liquids

The next step is limiting the use of hazardous chemical liquids that can pollute the sea, such as fertilizer and cleaner liquids. You can start by using eco-friendly and hazard-free products to prevent polluting the marine ecosystem.

3. Becoming a Responsible Visitor

Indonesia is a maritime country with many beautiful beaches. Yet, when visiting the beach, make sure to be a responsible visitor by not littering, not taking photos with wild marine biota, and tidying up your belongings when you are about to leave.

4. Recycling Waste

The next step of how to preserve the sea is recycling the waste. You have implemented one of the circular economy concepts and extended the product's life span by recycling it.

Consequently, these products are reusable and will not pollute the current ecology by ending up in the ocean as untreated garbage. In addition, before recycling the waste, make sure to sort it based on the types to make it easier to process.

Regarding sorting waste, Chandra Asri Group Operates a campaign called Indonesia Asri with one of the programs, Operasi Semut, which educates society on the importance of sorting the waste before throwing it. You can register yourself as Warga Asri and get more insight into a sustainable lifestyle.

5. Fishing Wisely

The sea has become the habitat of millions of fish so many fishermen come to make use of some. Yet, you must fish wisely because not all marine animals are consumable.

Many fish species are protected and prohibited from being caught. Aside from that, if you want to go fishing, make sure to use safe tools for the marine ecosystem. Avoid using explosives to catch fish because it can damage and pollute the marine ecosystem.

6. Reducing Carbon Emissions

Carbon emissions trapped in the atmosphere can escalate global warming, making the planet hotter. This surely will increase the sea surface temperature. As a result, marine biota can die of extreme temperature changes.

You can start with a simple step to reduce carbon emissions, such as cycling, taking public transportation, lowering electricity consumption, and many more.

7. Avoiding Standing on the Coral Reefs

If you visit the beach or sea, you will see the coral reefs appear. But, you must not stand on the coral reefs because they are fragile.

Many different types of marine life can be found on coral reefs. Coral reefs are also slow-growing; thus, it is challenging to restore them after injury.

What Chandra Asri Group Does to Preserve the Marine Ecosystem

Those are the information about how to preserve the sea. As the largest ecosystem on the Earth, the sea provides a habitat for various kinds of marine animals and plants.

The sea also helps humans by producing edible marine biota and tidal waves that can power electric turbines. To preserve the sea, Chandra Asri Group as a leading chemical, energy, and infrastructure solution company in Southeast Asia also gives its best contributions.

Since 2020, PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk collaborated with Kelompok Alam Bawah Laut Sukarame (KABL) and the experts in Sekolah Tinggi Perikanan LPSPL Serang did coral reefs transplantation in Banten Bay.

A total of 1,250 coral reef seedlings were planted on 25 rack units with a hybrid rack and casting system. Some of the transplanted seedlings are Acropora Carduus, Acropora Cervicornis, Acropora Formosa, Acropora Grandis, Acropora Intermedia, and Acropora Pulchra.

Next, the coral reefs will be monitored by the team. Some marine biota were found in the coral reefs, such as seahorses, stingrays, starfish, and others. We hope that the coral reefs can grow to be the new homes for the marine biota and increase the marine ecosystem in Banten Bay.

Aside from coral reef transplantation, Chandra Asri Group also installed Oil Bloom to protect the marine ecosystem and support port safety. Oil Boom is one of the port safety standards that protect marine ecosystems from oil spills in the water.

These waterproof plastic or rubber barriers can also speed up the cleanup process of oil spills at sea and protect marine ecosystems, beaches, and water infrastructure.
